The celebrations of the 12th International Day of Yoga, under the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing", took place in Ashgabat on 21 June 2026, with the participation of Deputy Minister of Healthcare and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan Mr. Azat Ovezov, Representatives of the Diplomatic Corps, Members of Indian Community and Yoga enthusiasts in Turkmenistan.

In his welcome remarks, Ambassador Bandaru Wilsonbabu spoke about the origins of Yoga in ancient India as well as the adoption of 21 June as the International Day of Yoga in 2014, at the initiative of Prime Minister of India H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi. He also highlighted the benefits of Yoga for healthy ageing and for peace and harmony in today's turbulent world.
3. Deputy Minister of Healthcare and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan Mr. Azat Ovezov emphasized the role of Yoga in improving the physical and emotional well-being of individuals as well as in preventing several life-style related diseases. Recalling the inauguration of "Yoga and Traditional Medicine Centre" in Ashgabat during the official visit of Prime Minister of India H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi to Turkmenistan in July 2015, Mr. Ovezov reiterated the support of the Government of Turkmenistan for the promotion of Yoga across the country.
4. The vibrant celebrations of the 12th International Day of Yoga in Ashgabat symbolised the longstanding bonds of friendship and cooperation between India and Turkmenistan. In line with its policy of "Extended Neighbourhood" and the ancient Indian philosophy of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (World is One Family), India stands ready to share its developmental experience and expertise, as per the needs and priorities of Turkmenistan.
